= ABOUT ME =

Hi all and thank you so much for visiting my page. My name is Dena Minhas and I have always been interested in nutrition and wellbeing since joining the gym in 2009.  I have been passionate about how simple dietary and lifestyle changes can lead to significant health benefits. I have always been a big lover of food throughout my life, but this became more of a wakeup call for myself. Having seen family members health deteriorate, it made me think about my own health and how I can make simple changes whilst still enjoying the foods I love eating.

I have been working in Finance in the City of London for many years now and due to the busy nature of the job, my sleep has always struggled. Poor sleep, metabolism, stress & bad nutrition is contributing factor to weight gain. These are areas I felt were important to focus on whilst doing a demanding job.

I have learned through small changes to eating and moving made a huge difference to my overall health. My tweaks and developing a positive lifestyle habit can be truly transformational on a physical and emotional level.

I can help both male & females who have busy lifestyles who feel the need to focus more on their nutrition. You can expect to enjoy a detailed consultation where we will discuss your current health, diet, lifestyle and future aims in these areas. You will then be provided with nutritional guidance based on this consultation, where we will work together to achieve your health and wellbeing goals. Recommendations will always be realistic and enjoyable.

The initial consultation is crucial to building a picture of health, goals and challenges. Initially, I assess your past and current nutritional habits, lifestyle and emotional stressors. Once all the information is gathered, I will develop an individual and bespoke plan, which is based on implementing diet and lifestyle changes to help you reach your health goals. We will work together to achieve optimal health with an individual approach with on-going support and follow up consultations.

I am fully committed to ensuring that my clients come away from their consultation feeling empowered and equipped to make the changes to their diet and lifestyle in order to achieve optimum health. My focus is on long- term health.

= WHAT IS NUTRITION ? =

Nutrition is the study of how food and drink affects our bodies with a special regard to the essential nutrients necessary to support human health. It looks at the physiological and biochemical processes involved in nourishment and how substances in food provide energy or are converted into body tissues.
Good nutrition can help prevent disease and promote health. There are six categories of nutrients that the body needs to acquire from food: protein, carbohydrates, fat, fibers, vitamins and minerals and water.

Good nutrition gives our bodies everything it needs in the right amounts, it keeps us healthy. It means that we have everything we need to function at our best. This reduces our risk of illness and injury because our body has the right nutrients to repair, restore, and protect.

A good diet is important for our health and can help us feel our best – but what is a good diet? No single food contains all the essential nutrients the body needs to stay healthy and work properly. For this reason, our diets should contain a variety of different foods, to help us get the wide range of nutrients that our bodies need.

A healthy diet should provide us with the right amount of energy (calories or kilo joules), from foods and drinks to maintain energy balance. Energy balance is where the calories taken in from the diet are equal to the calories used by the body. We need these calories to carry out everyday tasks such as walking and moving about, but also for all the functions of the body we may not even think about. Processes like breathing, pumping blood around the body and thinking also require calories.

So, foods and drinks provide the calories we need to go about our daily lives, but consuming more calories than we need over a period of time will cause weight gain. This is because, any extra calories we consume but we don’t use, will just be stored as fat.
